When You Need More than Idle Words of Encouragement
Today I received a prayer request from a woman who is depleted and empty from all she has been through with her husband and her divorce. Her self-esteem has bottomed out. She feels disillusioned, lost and alone.
Perhaps you know the depths of that pit too.
When you are in that place, traditional cheering up isn’t what you want or need. It can make you feel like you’re not understood. In some senses, it falls on deaf ears because loss blocks the ability to see beyond the pain.
So, I won’t give you pat answers that simply tell you that everything will be okay. I won’t tell you that time heals all wounds. Truthfully, time alone doesn’t always heal.
I will tell you the truth.
The truth is that God still loves you more than you can imagine. The truth is that with intention and guidance you can work through the pain and move onto a good life. The truth is that God wants to partner with you in achieving that goal.
And that’s the truth.
You are more than your divorce. You are more than the troubles of your circumstances. You are the loved child of almighty God. Working with Christ through divorce will lift you day-by-day from the pit.
It will take time but time alone isn’t what heals all wounds. Become intentional about being your best self. Know that God loves you and values you whether or not you’re divorced.
Get guidance for working through the pain. With prayerful effort you can reach a place where your divorce no longer has emotional power in your life. Believe it. Work for it. It will come.
And that’s the truth.
Peace my friends,
