Getting Past the Pain of Divorce
I know the pain and devastation of separation and divorce.
I know what it is to wonder “why?” and to doubt your own worth. I know the heartbreak of broken promises and the fear of the unknown. I’ve experienced the loneliness and the financial strife of how to pay the bills.
Yes, I’ve wondered how my failure to keep my marriage together affected what God thought about me—what the world thought about me too. I’ve known what it’s like to be annoyed by happy couples because I was so unhappy. I’ve wondered if life was still worth living.
Yes, I’ve walked that path. Since you’re here, I’m guessing you’ve walked that path too. Perhaps you still are.
What I know that you may not, is that even though you may feel like it, your life is not over.
I know you will survive. I know your life can get better. I know that divorce doesn’t have to define who you are. These things I know because in addition to walking the path of divorce, I’ve walked the path of healing.
Hope
The pain we share is not why I write about divorce. I know the pain full well, but it’s a message of hope that keeps me writing. The glory of it all is that my divorce no longer has emotional power in my life.
You can reach that place too!
But, I’ve learned that it takes more than just the passage of time for the emotional impact of divorce to fade.
Getting past the pain involves these things:
- Accepting the realities of your marriage and divorce,
- Facing your emotions and working through them,
- Learning to conquer the darkness thoughts that hold you back,
- Taking prayerful action to make your life better.
That may seem very overwhelming right now but you can do it! It’s why I wrote Peace after Divorce as a guidebook for the journey. All you need is a little help along the way.
So, now you know why I write about divorce. I want to give you hope. I want you to know that God still loves you and that there are practical steps you can take to move to a place where your divorce no longer has emotional power in your life.
I hope you will allow me to help you on your journey to a better place.
See you here next Wednesday.
God bless you,
Renee
