How to Talk with God about Divorce
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep praying for the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:18 NIV
Prayer is that is amazingly powerful in so many ways. Talk with God simply, sincerely, and respectfully. You don’t need fancy words. Realize that nobody, including you, can be good enough to merit God’s love, but he gives it to you anyway.
Clear the air by asking God for forgiveness and by forgiving those who have offended you. Thank God for his goodness and for loving you. Acknowledge God as being God.
Pray in a way that is consistent with the teachings and Spirit of God. Don’t ask for things that you know in your heart are wrong or incompatible with a follower of Christ.
Pray believing these things:
- God cares about you and your trials.
- God is with you.
- God loves you.
- God wants what is best for you.
- God knows best and knows the big picture–so ask that his will be done.
- God listens.
- Prayer can affect outcomes.
The truth about God is that the relationship he seeks with you is personal. He created you so he knows you and loves you with an incredible love. God is forgiving when we ask. God is full of grace. God is approachable. God loves you.
You never have to leave a voice mail for God.”
