Will Life Ever Come Together?
When Craig Wayne Boyd choose his song for the semifinals on The
Voice TV show, the country music singer did the unexpected–he selected a 101 year old hymn, “The Old Rugged Cross.” I sure didn’t see that coming. Did you?
Voice coach Pharrell Williams got it. He observed that Craig had spent years trying to make it in the music industry. Now that success was in reach, Craig was public giving God the glory.
Way to go Craig! At a critical point in the competition Craig chose to raise a song of faith. Choosing an old traditional hymn was a risky move as far as getting popular votes goes.
According to the TV show Craig had faced many challenges working his way into the competitive music industry. I know nothing more about Craig as a person and I have no idea how he lives his personal life. Yet, somehow I doubt that this was the first time Craig acknowledged God’s role in his journey.
What does this have to do with healing from divorce?
We all know that the adjustments and challenges related to divorce and life after divorce can be wearying to say the least. It’s hard. There can be days when you’re not sure if life will ever come together again.
Never give up.
It’s important to keep the faith. It’s important to cling to the old rugged cross. It’s important to acknowledge God’s blessings even amid our trials.
Clinging to the old rugged cross reminds us that God is with us. Speaking our faith affirms in our own hearts that God cares and has a plan for us. Acknowledging blessings from God gives us strength and hope. Singing praise to God opens our hearts for God to work in our lives.
What power do you find from clinging to the old rugged cross?
