How Can I Know if I Should Marry Again?
Many factors go into deciding if, and when, you should marry again. Obviously, finding the right person is paramount. Yet there are other considerations as well. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
Remember–Only God Can Complete You
Those looking to a mate to, “make me whole” will always be disappointed because their mate cannot be God. Seek to know God and receive his love before seeking a mate. Only a right relationship with God can complete you. Grow in him and he will reveal his will for your life and it will be good. Marriage can be a delightful partnership when two people are each seeking God for their fulfillment.
Fix What Needs to be Fixed
Focusing on finding a new marital partner to fill the void caused by divorce may result in another failed marriage unless the factors that contributed to divorce are addressed first. It is critical to take the initiative prayerfully to identify and address these issues and to seek counseling if needed.
Center Yourself
Joy and peace are available in a relationship with Christ. This means that a single person can live a joyous and full life. Delight in the wonders of creation and the presence of God.
Ask Yourself…
- Are you looking for a mate to make you whole?
- In what way do you put yourself at risk for a bad relationship if you are seeking a person to make you whole?
- What do you need to do heal old wounds before you get involved in a post-divorce romantic relationship?
Talk with God
Ponder this reading and share your thoughts with God. Listen so that the Holy Spirit might fill you with wisdom and peace. What concrete actions do you need to take based on what God is saying to you?
