Weary from Divorce? Give a Shout Out to God
Are you feeling weary from separation and divorce?
No joke.
Divorce can wear you out. It can zap all your strength and leave you discouraged and lonely. Emotions and conflicts weigh you down like a wet blanket laid on top of daily responsibilities.
It is easy to feel afraid, hopeless, and alone.
There’s Hope
Your most powerful resource is just three words away. “God help me.”
- When you are at your wit’s end,
- When you are seeking direction,
- When you are facing conflict with your soon-to-be-ex…
God help me!”
When your heart is sick with grief, know that God is the great physician.
How to Talk with God about Divorce
Talk with God simply, sincerely, and respectfully. You don’t need fancy words. Realize that nobody, including you, can be good enough to merit God’s love, but he gives it to you anyway.
Clear the air by asking God for forgiveness and by forgiving those who have offended you. Okay, I know, that last part is hard. If you can’t forgive yet, then ask God to help you try to forgive so that you can lift the burden of anger and frustration from your heart.
Thank God for his goodness and for loving you. Tell him your frustrations. Tell him what makes you angry, hurt, or lonely. Seek his guidance.
Pray in a way that is consistent with the teachings and Spirit of God. Don’t ask for things that you know in your heart are wrong or incompatible with a follower of Christ. Acknowledge God as being God.
Pray believing these things:
- God cares about you and your trials.
- God is with you.
- God loves you.
- God wants what is best for you.
- God knows best and knows the big picture. Ask that his will be done.
- God listens.
- Prayer can affect outcomes.
When You Don’t Know What to Pray
Even if you don’t know what to say to God, you can still pray. God already knows your heart. If words just won’t come, quiet yourself and simply say, God, here I am. You know my heart.
