The Wicked Twist of Divorce Karma
Over the years I’ve often heard people hoping that karma catches up with their ex spouse. I get that because hurt, especially the deep hurt of infidelity and divorce, is a rotten feeling. And, when you’ve been so betrayed and broken by another person, it’s only natural to want to see that person get their due.
You want someone to make them pay for all the hurt they caused you. You certainly don’t want to see the person who hurt you now living a happy life. That just feels so very wrong.
The problem is that the desire for karma to catch up with your ex is really a need for revenge. And sadly, the need for revenge will eat you alive. It will eat YOU alive.
The need your heart has for payback won’t hurt your ex. I believe that’s why karma is NOT a Christian concept. It isn’t good for YOU. It just further hurts your heart because it feeds nurtures your anger.
Do you really want to do that to yourself?
As Christians, we are taught instead to “leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘it is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” God wants us to let go of the need for revenge. Only then can we really be free from the pain. I hope this helps.
What does Karma have to do with Christianity?
Exactly nothing. I’m sorry if the post failed to make that point. I frequently hear people talking about how they hope karma catches up with their ex. The point of the post was intended to illustrate that that isn’t a Christian concept. Not only that, but when we wish ill to someone who has hurt us, we continue to feed our feelings of pain and revenge. I hope this clarifies that karma has nothing to do with Christianity. Thank you for asking!
